We had scale so bad on our sago palms and thought they would die for sure a couple of years ago. After reading online that many people recommended the Hartz Flea & Tick Spray (for "HOME") to use on the ground and even on the fronds of our sagos to kill the scale, we've done it for years and it has been very successful. Only thing is that you have to keep it up year after year, but when you consider the cost of a new, mature sago (could be thousands of dollars for ones the sizes of ours) then this spray is affordable compared to the cost of replacement, plus the scale will always return if it is in your area because it travels with the wind from plant to plant.
If you plan to use this on your sagos, be sure to get the one labeled for "Home." The one labeled for "Dogs" is too strong and could kill your plant.
